Open Positions

Transfer Tax Planning Partner (or Group)

Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP is seeking a lateral Partner to take a leadership position in its estate planning practice. Come to San Diego and enjoy the good life while serving high end estate planning clients doing the most interesting work in partnership with nationally recognized experts in the estates and trusts practice. A Partner candidate does not need to have a significant book of business to be a successful candidate. We would also consider the option of a Partner candidate bringing a group of professionals, provided that they satisfy firm criteria for the positions. The firm is recognized nationally as a top estates and trusts firm with two ACTEC Fellows. The firm’s practice is under the leadership of ACTEC Fellow, Nancy G. Henderson, who is the co-founder of Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP. With over 30 years of experience and a national reputation as a leader in the estate planning practice, Ms. Henderson’s group represents very high net worth clients, providing them a high level of client service and personal touch. We are seeking a lateral partner with a growing national reputation and a desire to join Ms. Henderson in practice management and firm leadership. Our attorneys are all highly credentialed. Therefore, a successful Partner candidate will have a law degree from a top-tier law school and at least 12 years of experience in transfer tax planning and drafting, and some experience in mentorship of associates and practice management. We also require our partners to be active in the profession, and we would expect a successful candidate to either be an ACTEC Fellow or to have a resume that includes significant speaking, writing and other external professional activities that would support a successful future nomination as an ACTEC Fellow. A Partner candidate would ideally already be licensed to practice law in California, or have a reasonable expectation of passing the exam. We compete with large national law firms while offering a superior firm culture. We focus on doing the best work for our clients while allowing a high quality of life for our attorneys and other employees. Our estate planning clients are exceptional, and their needs are always interesting and intellectually challenging. Please submit your resume to careers@hcesq.com.

Estate & Gift Tax Senior (Partnership Track) Associate

Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP is seeking a Senior Associate in its estate planning practice. This is a partnership track position. Successful Senior Associate candidates will have a JD from a top-tier law school and will already be licensed to practice law in California, or are scheduled to take the California bar exam in the near future with a reasonable expectation of passing the exam. At least five years of experience in estate, gift and generation skipping transfer tax planning and drafting is a must. An LLM in tax is desired, but it may be substituted with the right depth of experience in estate, gift, generation-skipping and fiduciary income tax planning. Henderson, Caverly & Pum LLP is recognized nationally as a top tier estates and trusts firm. Our attorneys are the best of the best, with two ACTEC Fellows. We offer exceptional mentorship and professional development opportunities for our Associates and encourage them to grow professionally within and outside of the firm. We compete with large national law firms while offering a superior firm culture. We focus on doing the best work for our clients while allowing a high quality of life for our attorneys and other employees. In that regard, we provide modest billable hour requirements (1600 hours for Senior Associates) to ensure there is sufficient time for professional development. We assume every Associate will one day be a Partner and that is our goal. Our estate planning clients are exceptional, and their needs are always interesting and intellectually challenging. We provide competitive pay and offer comprehensive benefits. While we believe in-office work is the most valuable for our Associates and we provide them dedicated office space, we do offer our Associates the option of working a hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. We offer unlimited time off for Associates who are attaining their billable hour and other professional development requirements, subject to prior approval to ensure clients’ needs are met. Please submit your resume to careers@hcesq.com.
